Senior Electrical Engineer

Opportunity: 

The Pederson Group has been retained by Yara Belle Plaine to conduct a search for a Senior Electrical Engineer!

Yara Belle Plaine—located in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan—is one of North America’s newest nitrogen fertilizer facilities and is, in fact, one of the largest single line granulation facilities on the continent. Yara’s Belle Plaine production facility is strategically situated near its core markets in Western Canada and the Northern United States. 

Reporting to the Lead Engineer, the Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for systematically analyzing non-conformities and technical reliability issues of instrumentation, electrical and automation systems, as well as installations at the site. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure minimal automation systems and electrical installation breakdowns by determining possible fault modes and initiating positive change to productivity and equipment cost of ownership. 

  • Ensure automation systems and electrical installations are designed, inspected, and maintained in accordance with applicable standards and Yara’s best practices. 

  • Lead and support equipment reliability related studies responsible for producing and communicating technical reports with findings and recommendations. 

  • Drive compliance with Yara’s technical standards at site and own all required actions to help eliminate existing/future deviations. 

  • Optimize an existing asset management and spare parts program. 

  • Contribute to Yara’s asset management and reliability tracking process, resulting in measurable maintenance cost reductions. 

  • Develop preventative replacement plans and progress business ideas to project completion. 

  • Develop automation and electrical project scopes and facilitate the management of change processes. 

  • Support troubleshooting and problem-solving activities as well as drive detailed technical investigations and lesson learned sessions. 

  • Analyze and report data for various electrical tests. 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as electrical engineering or an equivalent program, is required. 

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in a similar position or field. 

  • P.Eng. or the ability to register with APEGS is required. 

  • CMRP designation or equivalent is considered an asset. 

  • Extensive knowledge of process control, instrumentation systems and industrial electrical installations. 

  • Experience in a heavy industrial plant such as a fertilizer, oil refinery, chemical plant, or power utility setting is required. 

  • Applicants must have demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication and analytical skills. 

  • Excellent oral and written technical communication skills. 

  • Working knowledge of common software and applications, such as SAP, Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
