The Pederson Group has been retained by Tech-Air to conduct a search for a skilled leader to join their team as the Service Operations Manager in Winnipeg, MB!

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Service Operations Manager will be responsible for leading and managing staff to meet the operating unit’s profit objectives while ensuring timely and high-quality service to customers in compliance with contractual commitments.

Responsibilities:

Business Operations:

  • Organize and delegate work according to positions and established procedures while encouraging mutual agreement on objectives.

  • Oversee and audit staff performance and provide constructive feedback to improve performance.

  • Recommend appropriate personnel actions; i.e., hiring, firing, promotions, demotions, compensation, etc. 

  • Redeem planned gross profit through leadership and management of staff.

  • Regularly monitor billings and take action to ensure maximum cash flow. 

  • Establish positive relationships with managers, supervisors, staff, field, and other personnel to influence purchasing, scheduling, installations and work completion decisions. 

  • Motivate the workforce and maintain high employee morale. 

  • Build and maintain a network of contacts for recruitment while creating a list of potential recruits.

  • Develop programs to improve the skills of staff as individuals and as a team.

  • Support sales force on calls as required. 

  • Promote new business and upgrading of existing agreements by instructing and directing staff to generate and report leads and sales opportunities. 

  • Measure effectiveness of existing programs, identify problems or weaknesses, and recommend new methods or corrective action.

  • Establish policies and procedures necessary for smooth and timely internal administration. 

Service Management:

  • Audit required documents prior to the start of work. 

  • Ensure that working personnel are fully informed about the scope of the project.

  • Ensure all equipment, materials, and subcontracts are ordered and delivered on time. 

  • Maintain a master schedule showing current status and plan for all assigned projects. 

  • Provide support for any special projects as assigned by your manager. 

  • Effectively staff jobs and control labour costs within assigned cost limits. 

  • Direct and monitor staff in the preparation of requisitions in a timely manner for materials, equipment and subcontracts. 

  • Resolve schedule conflicts as required. 

  • Monitor project schedules to ensure timely completion of work. 

  • Effectively price and recommend maintenance programs.

  • Ensure that the technical capabilities of the field force align with contractual commitments and market strategy.

  • Assure permits are secured where applicable. 

  • Establish and monitor guidelines to determine field labour requirements. 

  • Recommend changes to requirements based on the annual operating plan and performance to ensure maximum productivity.

  • Instruct and direct staff to ensure cost effective and efficient use of equipment, tools, and materials while ensuring efficient field operations. 

  • Perform billable work as required to ensure the operating plan is met. 

Customer Relations:

  • Resolve customer complaints in a timely manner to maintain long-term relationships.

  • Act as primary customer contact for service activities and discuss contract changes, staffing, and technical performance. 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an HVAC technician or service management role.

  • Technical understanding of HVAC and mechanical services is required.

  • Certifications of a Class “B” or Class “A” ticket would be considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of the relationship between performance, customer satisfaction, and new business is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and appropriate codes and industry standards is considered an asset.

  • Proven track record of accurately determining job priorities by scheduling personnel and materials is required.
