Opportunity: 

The Pederson Group has partnered with Postma Consulting to search for a Cost Consultant (Mechanical)! 

Founded in 1996, Postma Consulting is a go-to full-service cost consulting firm with expertise in financing, real estate, loan monitoring, estimating, life cycle costing and project management. Postma serves a variety of clients across the Western Provinces as well as Ontario, Nunavut, and the Maritimes, including banks and lending organizations, project owners, property developers, architectural firms, insurance corporations, asset management companies, and federal and provincial government authorities. Their team brings over 185 years of combined construction and estimating experience to their projects, which has made them a well-known and highly sought-after cost consulting firm in Canada. 

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Cost Consultant will be responsible for completing class D, B, C, and A mechanical estimates. The Cost Consultant will also assist in the creation of required electrical estimates.

Responsibilities:

Estimating:

• Review project documents and determine the scope of work.

• Set up and complete estimating in the required format.

• Develop preliminary construction schedules to determine project durations.

• Complete detailed quantification of building elements based on drawings and specifications.

• Assist in the development of assembly pricing for use in the final estimate.

• Review completed estimates for completeness and complete quality assurance checks. 

Processes and Documentation:

• Assist in the development of process documentation that encompasses the scope of work.

• Collaborate with peers to develop comprehensive documents.

• Review and update as required.

Stakeholder Relations:

• Manage relationships with stakeholders to keep abreast of project updates and milestones.

• Communicate any updates and/or concerns internally to ensure the project remains on time and within budget.

Experience and Qualifications: 

• Minimum 5 years of mechanical related experience, including estimating and site experience, will be considered an asset.

• Post-secondary education in construction management, quantity surveying, civil/structural engineering, building science or another related field is required.

• Demonstrated understanding of the construction industry, including development, contracting and consulting sectors.

• Previous experience with CIQS standard method of measurement and Uniformat is considered an asset.

• Proficient in using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, with an understanding of OST or other on-screen estimating software.

• The successful candidate will be working towards their PQS or CEC designation.
