Senior Project Manager


Opportunity:

The North West Company has retained the Pederson Group to conduct a search for a Senior Project Manager!

The North West Company (NWC) is one of Canada’s oldest companies and has been in operation for over 200 years! NWC is a leading retailer to under-served rural communities and urban neighbourhood markets in the following regions: Northern Canada, Western Canada, rural Alaska, the South Pacific islands, and the Caribbean. Their stores offer a broad range of products and services with an emphasis on food. NWC’s construction division does over $150 million annually!

As the Senior Project Manager at the North West Company, you will oversee the engineering and construction of all NWC facilities and guarantee they are constructed/manufactured economically and efficiently to conform to business requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, training and monitoring the use of the NWC’s project methodologies, tools, and aids.

  • Identify and validate project scope, risks, constraints, dependencies, and resource demands.

  • Oversee capital projects and monitor projects against planned budget and schedule.

  • Prepare and obtain approvals for The Project Charter and associated work plan and budget.

  • Ensure that appropriate environmental management and energy environment initiatives are integrated when designing facilities.

  • Ensure that proper energy environment technology is being utilized where applicable to rationalize a return on investment.

  • Monitor and audit project deliverables throughout the life of the project.

  • Ensure projects are engineered in line with NWC’s long-term standards, specifications goals and initiatives from cost-effectiveness and a practical perspective.

  • Work closely with other Project Managers and Senior Management to aid projects and meet the scope, budget, and timelines.

  • Manage/Mentor Project Managers and Project Coordinators following NWC leadership principles.

  • Ensure project risks are identified and managed or eliminated.

  • Create effective communication strategies and practice continuous improvement philosophy.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 -10 years of experience managing projects over $15m in commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.

  • Post-secondary education is considered an asset, preferably in a relevant field such as project management professional designation (PMP Certification).

  • Combination of work experience in corporate retail or retail projects.

  • Efficiency with Auto CAD.

  • Knowledge of retail design, commercial, construction, and facility management processes is considered an asset.

  • Experience conducting performance analysis of workflow and processes.

  • Knowledge of business functional groups is preferred.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Project is required.

  • Ability to lead with strong organization, time management and people management skills.

  • Capable of operating independently with minimal direction.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize them while adhering to strict schedule deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of individuals in a spectrum of situations.
