$6 Billion Investment: What We Know

I'm guessing you're here after seeing our video about the federal government's $6-billion investment to grow Canada's skilled trades workforce. Here's what has been announced so far.

It's part of the federal government's new Team Canada Strong plan. The government plans to provide apprentices with a $400 weekly top-up while they attend mandatory in-class technical training. Apprentices could receive up to $16,000 in total, paid in addition to Employment Insurance.

The government has also announced a one-time $5,000 completion bonus for people who earn certification in a Red Seal trade.

The full eligibility requirements and application process haven't been released yet. In the meantime, you can:

  1. Check whether your trade is listed at red-seal.ca
  2. Contact your provincial apprenticeship office to learn about becoming a registered apprentice
  3. Watch for official updates from the Government of Canada

We’ll share more information once the government releases the official application process, so make sure to follow The Pederson Group on Instagram and LinkedIn for updates!
